What is a carburetor for? The carburetor is an essential component of a gasoline internal combustion engine. This component prepares a mixture of air (the oxidizer) and fuel, with the correct fuel-to-air ratio, which will ideally combust in the combustion chamber. This mixture of air and fuel vapor is drawn into the cylinder upon intake. It also regulates the engine's speed and torque.
