What's your boat's alternator for?

The engine alternator of a boat is designed to charge the start battery.Generally very reliable, it is based on the principle of car alternator with watertight bearings, anti-corrosion treatment and reinforced control circuits.

Their power range from 40 A to 200At about, their operation is simple: the engine will drive the alternator via a belt which will then allow to create energy, which will be stored by the battery.

To maintain your alternator, just check the tension of the belt, tighten the connectors if necessary and control the wear of the coals.

The alternator is often fairly reliable, in case of load or engine start problems, the attachment parts are often at the origin of the failure (battery, belt, regulator if the load is too high).
