The thermostat is used to achieve optimum engine operating temperature.

It acts as a valve that opens above a specified temperature, so it allows the water to invade the ass and engine block and cool them.

If the thermostat is failing, there may be two problems: the engine reaches too quickly al operating temperature and becomes too hot, or the engine does not reach the operating temperature fairly quickly.

A deficient thermostat can lead to a sharp wear of the spare parts of the engine.
